As of the 3/5/08 shelters, still no sign of Regional Counsel in the 17th Judicial Circuit - Broward County. Rumor has it that Regional Counsel is getting geared up to take cases here soon.
What's the rest of the state looking like?
FYI - there is at least one bill that was filed very recently calling for Regional Counsel to be repealed.

Just FYI, it's HB 1179.
I am over here in the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Clearwater. Regional Counsel has been up and running since December 2007. They just hired six new dependency attorneys, fresh out of law school and probably will be taking all appointments in the next two weeks. It is very disheartening to me who has been practicing dependency defense for 15 years. To think Victor Christ with no though at all "unemployed" many fine court appointed lawyers. I have three small children to raise and it will be tough sleding. I enjoy reading your blog!
They have 1 ROC attorney per courtroom in Miami Dade County & they need to hire many more. Strange to think the State wants to accumulate a ton of pension and health benefits never mind office costs over the course of many years to come making this a very expensive proposition to cut out private workers with their own personal office costs and pension/health costs to bear. This needs to become known to Florida taxpayers who will have to pay the bills. Charlie and Victor Crist should answer this.
The 1 ROC per courtroom in Miami Dade County is for dependency. Have not seen ROCs in criminal courtrooms but they are being sent cases with a skeleton fraction of attorneys. The ROC currently appears to be greatly underfunded and will without a doubt cost Florida taxpayers a hec of a lot more money than private counsel. Private counsel bear their own health/pension and office costs are are certaintly more efficient for the proper administration of justice. Where are Victor and Charlie Crist to explain the above??
The Fifth Judicial Circuit, Marion County, still no ROC's, Citrus and Lake supposedly have one each. Sumter and Hernando, none that I have heard of. Orange was supposed to be up but I haven't heard anything from down there. I agree with everyone else, I've done this work since 1994. We worked really hard when the county to state changeover happened to keep things running smooth. As for Vitor Christ, and his brother, I cannot say how disappointing it is to be so truly unappreciated for all our hard work during what could have been a nasty time changing over. It really galls me.
